Press release no. 53/2017 AERONAUTICAL AIRCRAFT: URGENCY TRANSPORT FROM PUGLIA FOR CHILD IN imminent danger of life An emergency medical transport from Lecce to Rome was carried out tonight in favour of a child of about one year old in imminent danger of life. At 10.30 p.m., the little patient was taken from the military airport of Galatina (LE), together with his mother and a medical team from the “Vito Fazi” hospital in Lecce, aboard a Falcon 900 from the 31st Air Force Wing, which landed at Ciampino (RM) after about an hour's flight, to be then admitted to the “Bambino Gesù” hospital in Rome. The request for support was received by the Prefecture of Lecce from the Air Squadron Command's Summit Situations Room, the Air Force's operations room whose tasks include organising and managing - in coordination with Prefectures, Hospitals and the Prime Minister's Office - this type of transport throughout Italy. Air Force crews and transport aircraft are ready day and night to ensure, where required and deemed necessary for urgent reasons, the medical transport of people whose lives are in imminent danger. Thousands of flight hours are flown each year by the aircraft of the 31st Wing at Ciampino, the 14th Wing at Pratica di Mare and the 46th Air Brigade at Pisa, assets that are always on the front line in case of emergency.
