During the night, an HH-139A helicopter of the 85th C.S.A.R. (Combat Search and Rescue) Centre of the 15th Wing of the Italian Air Force was alerted to carry out an urgent transport from the island of Ponza (LT) of a woman in imminent danger of life. The helicopter, by order of the Aerospace Operations Command of Poggio Renatico, took off shortly after from the Pratica di Mare air base to reach the military airport of Latina, home of the 70th Wing, where the medical team was boarded.
After departing from the Lazio capital, the helicopter landed at the helipad of the Ponza teleporter (LT), where the woman was embarked. Despite difficult weather conditions, the crew promptly took off for the military airport of Latina, where they handed the patient over to the care of 118 medical personnel. The crew then departed for Pratica di Mare to resume normal readiness for the national SAR alert. The 85th Centre is one of the Units of the 15th Wing of the Italian Air Force, which guarantees, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, without interruption, the search and rescue of flight crews in difficulty, also contributing to public utility activities such as the search for missing persons at sea or in mountains, the emergency medical transport of patients in life-threatening conditions, and the rescue of severely traumatised individuals, operating in all weather conditions. Since its establishment to date, the crews of the 15th Wing have saved more than 7,300 people in life-threatening danger.
