Press release no. 24/2018 ONE-YEAR-OLD CHILD IN LIFE-THREATENING CONDITION CARRIED BY EMERGENCY AIR MOBILITY SERVICES This afternoon, March 17, a one-year-old child in imminent life-threatening danger was transported urgently by air from Cagliari to Genoa aboard a Falcon 50 aircraft of the 31st Air Wing of the Italian Air Force. The little patient, accompanied by a specialized medical team, was then transported by ambulance to the Giannina Gaslini Pediatric Institute. The request for transport, as in these cases, came from the Cagliari Prefecture to the Situation Room of the Air Force Command, the operational room of the Air Force that has among its tasks the organization and management of this type of transport throughout the national territory in coordination, precisely, with the Prefectures. Missions of this type require the utmost promptness. Through its flight divisions, the Air Force makes available means and crews ready to take off at any time and capable of operating in any meteorological condition to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of life, as happened today, but also of organs and medical teams for transplants. Every year, the aircraft of the 31st Ciampino Squadron, the 14th Pratica di Mare Squadron and the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa fly thousands of hours, always on the front line in case of emergency.
