Press release no. 11/2016 ITALIAN AIR FORCE: URGENT FLIGHT FOR YOUNG WOMAN IN LIFE-THREATENING CONDITION A Falcon 900E from the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force, which took off around 4:40 PM from Bari Palese (BA), landed just minutes ago at Orio al Serio airport (BG) with a 19-year-old woman on board in imminent danger of life.
A deterioration in the young woman's condition necessitated an immediate transfer from the hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo (FG) to a specialised hospital facility in Bergamo. As foreseen in such cases, it was the Prefecture of Foggia that, in coordination with the Presidency of the Council, turned to the Summit Situations Room of the Air Force Command's Aerial Squad, the 24-hour operational room responsible for coordinating these types of interventions.
Missions of this type require the utmost speed and the Air Force, through its Flying Units, makes aircraft and crews available, ready to take off 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, without interruption, and capable of operating in any weather conditions.
The remarkable capability of the Air Force's aircraft to carry specific medical and health equipment, such as incubators or even ambulances, as is the case with the aircraft of the 46th Air Brigade in Pisa, also allows patients and medical staff to promptly reach the most suitable healthcare facilities for their needs, travelling in complete safety. Hundreds of such missions for the benefit of the community are carried out every year.
