The students of the “G. Douhet” Military Aviation School participated in the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the “Lyra 35’ flight accident. At that time, on January 8, 1992, the bodies were recovered by the men of the Misericordia, assisted by some volunteers from the local associations and voluntary organizations. The tragedy caused deep emotion in the citizens of Montemurlo (Prato), so much so that spontaneously, a Committee was formed that, this year too, and thanks to the support of the local branch of the Association of the Aeronautic Forces (A.A.A.), worked to organize the ceremony.
Many citizens, numerous civil and military Authorities from the territory and the mayors of Morro d’Alba and Caraglio, the hometowns of Maggiore Stoppani and Lieutenant Dutto, who have since been twinned with Montemurlo, attended the commemoration.
The participation of a large delegation of active and retired personnel from the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa was particularly significant, along with the Deputy Commander of the Base, Colonel Michele Mapelli, the current Commander of the 2nd Group, Major Antonio Grillo, and General (r) Eupremio Greco, Commander of the Unit at the time of the incident.
The event concluded with the corps lunch, organized by the A.A.A. nucleus and the Misericordia di Montemurlo, during which the Officers and Sub-Officers of the 2nd Group confirmed a strong sense of unity and the spirit of body typical of those who have shared a life experience within the framework of a Flight Department of the Italian Air Force.
