One year after the tragic event involving the C-130J aircraft, during which 46th Air Brigade soldiers were involved in a flight accident, a sculpture in memory of the fallen soldiers of the 46th Air Brigade took part in the commemoration. In addition to the relatives of the missing military personnel, General of the Air Force Carmine Pollice, Commander of the Air Force, General of the Air Force Vincenzo Parma, Commander of the Force for Mobility and Support Command, and Commander of the 46th Air Brigade, General of the Air Force Stefano Fort, also took part in the commemoration. At the end of the ceremony, held at the Military Cemetery of Kindu and presided over by military chaplain Don Tiziano Sterli, a commemorative work dedicated to all the fallen soldiers of the 46th Air Brigade was inaugurated at the headquarters of the Flight Department. The work, 3 meters high and created for the occasion by the Friuli-based artist Silvano Spessot, was donated by VEGA Onlus to the Commander of the Air Force. It represents ten men who, wearing the tricolor, climb towards the sky in a spiral, holding hands; all of this symbolizes the strong bond that united them in their work and in their tragic fate. The work aims to bear witness to the heartfelt bond and vivid remembrance of friends and colleagues towards the aviators who have now passed away, as well as the great affection and sense of closeness towards their families. A plaque was placed at the base of the sculpture that reads: “I have not left the history of my flights in the sky. I have flown, and this is my joy.” The VEGA Onlus association, founded by the 50th Group following the tragic events of 2009, has social solidarity goals, through the promotion, organization, and management of aid, works, and events in favor of the fallen of work and their families.
