14 fixed workstations, expandable to more than thirty workstation in the event of particularly complex operations or exercises; more functional spaces, Software specific to each field of use with even more reliable performance. The new National Operations Centre del NASOCNational Air and Space Operations Centre), which will replace the one currently in use, can be summarised as follows.

Beating heart and brain of the Armed Force's so-called current operations, in Italy and around the world, the Operations Room was symbolically inaugurated on Thursday 3 July by the Air Squad General Silvano Frigerio, Commander of the Air Squad Command (CSA) and 1st Air Region (1RA), which expressed«profound pride and a renewed commitment to the mission entrusted to us.

This is a one-of-a-kind facility within the Armed Forces and in Italy, which required a multi-year works programme carried out by highly specialised technical, logistic and operational personnel from a great many Air Force units.

It's from the new “National Operations Centre”of Poggio Renatico, where – 24/7, 365 days a year – all activities connected with the planning of military flights affecting the will continue to be directed, coordinated and controlled National Airspace, in the fields of Air Defence, of Air Transport, of Operational Air Traffic, of Search and Rescue (SAR) and of the’Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance ISR, with the constant support of the weather component. As has happened in the past during the holding of so-called “Major Events”, such as the G7 2024 in Puglia or the recent funeral of Pope Francis and the subsequent enthronement of Pope Leo XIV, the new installation will be tasked with police the Italian skies.

“Today’s event is not merely the inauguration of a new operational facility: it is tangible evidence of the Italian Air Force’s commitment to continuing to grow, innovate and provide the country with an increasingly effective and modern service. The new National Operations Centre of the NASOC – stated that the General Frigerio – represents a strategic asset for Defence and confirms the central role of Poggio Renatico in the operations that see the men and women of the Italian Air Force engaged every day, with professionalism and dedication, in the service of national security and having to cope with an increasingly complex and multifaceted international scenario. In a rapidly changing world, where challenges are becoming more complex by the day, this facility enables us to be ready, responsive, indeed proactive, and equal to the responsibilities that our times entrust to us.”.

Great satisfaction was also expressed by Commander of the Air Operations Command, Air Division General Luca Maineri, under whose authority NASOC operates: «In fact, the Armed Force has invested substantial resources in this Operations Room within a broader perspective of the constant and ever-increasing need to involve air assets in national and international, coalition or multinational fields. We are proud of this new tool at our disposal. The “Current Operations” ensured by the NASOC are a concrete sign of the silent and constant work of the Italian Air Force professionals at the service of the country.
