The 11th Integrated Air and Missile Defence Group is the first operational NATO site to have undergone a NATO tactical evaluation using the ’Air Command and Control System“ command and control system. On Friday 24th May, the Head of NATO evaluators presented the results of the tactical evaluation undergone by the Task Force of the Air Operations Command (COA) of Poggio Renatico, formed by personnel from the 11th Integrated Missile Air Defence (DAMI) Group and the General Services Support Department (RSSG), integrated and supported by military personnel from other Wings and Departments of the Armed Force. The 11th DAMI Group, a unit reporting directly to the DAMI Department, guarantees the defence of national airspace 24 hours a day, 365 days a year through the control and use of radar sensors and radio capabilities distributed across the national territory. From the ’Pioppo“ radar operations room, controllers monitor their area of responsibility and are ready at any moment to relay the scramble order (in technical jargonScramble) to one of the pairs of Eurofighter aircraft deployed across the national territory.
