On Wednesday 29 September, the handover ceremony with Colonel Lolli took place, in the presence of the Commander of the 3rd Division of the Air Force Logistics Command. In his farewell address, Colonel Lolli highlighted the achievement of the set objectives, through intensive work to optimise the Armed Forces’ IT systems and services, with particular reference to the achievements made in the digitisation of paper documents, in line with the principles of efficiency and optimisation of public administration resources. Colonel Lolli has stepped down from this post to take up the role of Head of the IT Department of the 3rd Division of the Air Force Logistics Command. Colonel Scalese, born in Soleto (Lecce) in 1959, entered the Air Force Academy in Pozzuoli (Naples) in 1978 as part of the ‘Urano III’ intake. Having qualified as a telecommunications officer in 1983, he initially served at the Territorial Telecommunications and Aviation Directorate of the 3rd Air Region Command in Bari. In 1987, he was posted to the Operational Command of the 3rd Air Region (3rd ROC) in Martina Franca (Taranto), where he held the post of Head of the TLC Section. In 1994, he returned to serve at the TLC/AV Territorial Directorate in Bari as Head of the Planning and Coordination Office, before being assigned, during the period 1995–96, to the General Staff of the 3rd Air Region Command as Head of the TLC Security Section. During the 1997–98 academic year, after attending the 65th Advanced Course at the Air War College in Florence and the ISSMI course at the Centre for Advanced Defence Studies (CASD) in Rome, he served as a tutor. In the autumn of 1998, he was assigned to the 4th Department of the Air Force General Staff as Head of the ‘Telecommunications, Telematics and INFOSEC‘ Section of the 1st Office. From 19 April 2005 to 19 September 2010, he served at the 3rd Division of the Air Force Logistics Command, holding, over time, the posts of Head of the 2nd Office for ‘Radio Assistance, Radio, Meteorology and Intrusion Detection’ and Head of the 3rd Office ‘TLC/EAD and Satellite Systems’ of the 1st Department. Colonel Scalese holds a degree in aeronautical science and political science. He has been awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, the Gold Cross for Long Service and the NATO Medal for operations in ‘the former Yugoslavia’. He is married and has two children.
