Tuesday 21st June will see the handover to Col. Beatrice, in the presence of the Head of Infrastructure Services of the Air Force Logistics Command, Gen. Isp. Di Lauro. Colonel Beatrice concludes his term after more than two years in command and, in his farewell speech, he thanked all military and civilian personnel from the various components of the Department located throughout Southern Italy for the effort they have put in on every occasion, highlighting the intensive work carried out with over 120 projects.
Colonel Noviello expressed his well-deserved pride in the importance and prestige associated with the command of the Unit, as well as his sense of challenge in continuing along the delicate and complex path of such a significant organisation as the 3rd Air Force Engineering Unit. At the conclusion of the ceremony, General Di Lauro, in thanking Colonel Beatrice and all the Unit’s personnel for their hard work, urged the new Commander to continue along the path of ever-greater integration of the various components that make up the Air Force Engineering Unit, as well as to ensure the ongoing training and qualification of all personnel in the infrastructure sector, as the continuous updating of staff skills and knowledge must be regarded as a fundamental element of command. Colonel Beatrice will take up the post of Head of the Projects Office within the General Decommissioning Office at the Directorate-General for Public Works and State Property. Colonel Noviello, a graduate of the ‘Zodiaco III’ course at the Air Force Academy in Pozzuoli (Naples), has most recently served as Head of Office within the Infrastructure Service of the Air Force Logistics Command. Furthermore, he has held a variety of posts across a wide range of sectors within the Air Force, including 11 years in various Works Directorates, followed by 9 years in joint and international operations, both within NATO and in bilateral cooperation with the United States of America. The 3rd Air Force Engineering Department, which reports to the Infrastructure Service of the Air Force Logistics Command, is tasked with carrying out studies, surveys, design work, tendering and the execution of the works necessary to ensure the availability and efficiency of the infrastructure used by the Air Force. The execution of works is carried out both through contracted works and under direct management. The 3rd Air Force Engineering Department oversees the Detached Infrastructure Technical Services at Amendola (Foggia), Gioia del Colle (Bari), Sigonella (Catania) and Pozzuoli, as well as the 16th Field Engineering Group, co-located at the Bari Palese base.
