From Sunday 17 June, temperatures are forecast to rise significantly, with maximum peaks around 38-40°C. Medium and long-term forecasts are produced by the National Centre of Meteorology and Climatology of the Air Force (CNMCA) of the Air Force Meteorological Service, using deterministic and probabilistic atmospheric simulation mathematical models. These tools allow for the definition of medium and long-term scenarios, i.e. beyond a seven-day period and up to a maximum of 30 days, assigning probabilities of occurrence for the event itself where possible. In the opening image, temperature anomalies compared to the climatic norm for the week of 18 to 24 June 2012 are shown: the red values found across the national territory indicate excesses compared to the seasonal averages of 3 to 6°C. For more information and updates on the weather situation, you can consult the website: www.meteoam.it The CNMCA is the central operational body of the Air Force Meteorological Service, based at the “Mario De Bernardi” military airport in Pratica di Mare, Pomezia (Rome). The Centre is responsible for: – receiving, processing and disseminating, at national and international level, conventional and satellite meteorological data and information; – processing and distributing basic meteorological analyses and forecasts for the specific needs of the Armed Force and for aeronautical and general users; – producing and disseminating meteorological warnings for Civil Protection and for the safeguarding of life at sea.; – manage weather databases and carry out analysis, design, and development of new products for the needs of the Service bodies.
