It is the latest publication by the A.M. Historical Office on the history and image of the Armed Force through the life of Gen. Cagna.
90 years after the founding of the Italian Air Force and 80 years after the Italy-United States transatlantic flight, this study looks back at a crucial twenty-year period in Italian history – from the early 1920s to the Second World War – through the private archive of General Stefano Cagna, one of the most renowned aviators of the era, pilot and close collaborator of Italo Balbo. The research, which also uses documents held at the Historical Office of the Air Force Staff, the Central State Archive, and other institutions, aims to contextualise General Stefano Cagna's military career, which coincided with the arc of Fascism, within a broader and more complex framework of social history, also reconstructed through an extensive pictorial account, largely unpublished. The history of the Royal Air Force and its protagonists allows for an investigation into the complex propaganda mechanisms tested by the regime with its aerial expeditions, which were used as fascinating and effective tools for creating a widespread image of power associated with flight. Until the outbreak of the war and the fading of all illusions. For information on purchasing the book:editoriastorica@aeronautica.difesa.it;
