The City of Campi Salentina and the Galatina Flight School commemorate MOVM Captain Cosimo Di Palma on the occasion of the 73rd Anniversary of the Liberation. On Wednesday, April 25th, at the municipal seat of the City of Campi Salentina, on the occasion of the 73rd Anniversary of the Liberation, a ceremony was held during which a laurel wreath was laid at the bronze plaque bearing the citation for the award of the Gold Medal of Military Valour to Captain Cosimo Di Palma. Commander of the 61st Wing, Colonel Luigi Casali, and the Mayor, Professor Egidio Zacheo, thus wished to pay tribute to Captain Di Palma who, at just 28 years old, sacrificed his most precious possession, meriting for this heroic act the Gold Medal of Military Valour. In 1983, to further immortalise his memory, the Italian Air Force named the Sicilian airport of Sigonella, home to the 41st Wing, after him.
