Thursday 16th June marks the commemoration for a pilot awarded the Gold Medal for Military Valour, who fell in the skies of Cyrenaica during the Second World War.
The ceremony, enriched with significance by the presence of the pilot officer's remains, which are housed precisely in the Udine War Memorial among those of over 25,000 fallen for the Fatherland, also saw the involved participation of the medallist's grandchildren.
In his greeting to those present, Colonel Frasson wished to highlight the courage shown by the heroic Friulian up to his ultimate sacrifice, also reading out the citation for which he was awarded the Gold Medal for Military Valour.
For the occasion, the Aviator's Prayer in its first formulation was also read out, using a typewritten text signed by Captain D'agostini himself, proudly kept over time in the office of the Wing Commanders.
Captain Mario D'Agostini, who fell in the Libyan skies in June 1942, is a figure very much present in the memories of the 2nd Wing's personnel, along with another Friulian recipient of the Gold Medal of Military Valor, Captain Pilot Mario Visintini, after whom Rivolto airport is named.
