On Friday 13 May, Gen. Abrate was welcomed on arrival by Col. Garettini. After paying his respects to the War Flag of the 51st Wing, General Abrate visited the 132nd Flying Group ‘C.E. Buscaglia’ where he had the opportunity to observe the operational capabilities of the AM-X fighter jet. The Chief of Defence Staff was also able to witness a demonstration of the ‘Reccelite’ digital aerial photographic reconnaissance system, installed on board AM-X aircraft and currently deployed in Afghanistan for reconnaissance and close air support tasks for ground forces. General Abrate expressed his admiration for the way in which the Unit, directly subordinate to the Combat Forces Command in Milan, carries out the delicate and important task of air defence and support for the Armed Forces, both in Italy and in international missions.
