Two silver medals for the Air Force Sports Centre aviators ANCONA 03/02/2018 – The Italian U23 championships were held in Ancona over the past weekend, with the participation of the two athletes from Sports Centre of the’ Italian Air Force ’ Aviator Francesco Lama and the’ Chosen Airman Leonardo Fabbri. Among the most anticipated challenges of the first day of the Italian Junior and Promise Indoor Championships in Ancona, we find precisely the weightlifting who sees on the second step of the podium the’ Chosen Airman Leonardo Fabbri (19.19), who two weeks ago became the national record holder in his category (19.95), behind his lifelong rival, Sebastiano Bianchetti (19.26). We report his words from an interview at the end of the competition, which testify to the fantastic “back and forth” of the Italian title; “Let's say Seba and I swapped places today. I took his Promise record and he got the Italian title today. I had the flu last week and wasn't at my best. I can't wait to make up for it and maybe finally break that 20-metre barrier. I want the Tricolour vest at the Absolute Championships.”. Following this, another valuable achievement secured by our Chosen Airman Francesco Lama in the speciality Pole vault, that narrowly missed out on the Italian title, thus obtaining the silver medal with a jump of 5.20m. Over the same weekend, again in Athletics, at the International Indoor Meeting in Magglingen (CH), another fantastic success was achieved by the athlete of Sports Centre of the’ Italian Air Force, the’ Leading Aircraftman Lorenzo Perini, who climbs onto the third step of the podium with 60m hurdles in 7.76s – 7.74s in the heats. This result gives hope for possible qualification for the 2018 World Athletics Indoor Championships, which will be held in Birmingham from March 1st to 4th, where the qualifying standard is 7.70s.
