Colonel Giuseppe Longo takes over from Colonel Armando Treppiccioni
On the afternoon of Wednesday 9 October, at the Helicopter Hangar of 31st Wing of Ciampino, the handover of leadership of the Coordination Centre for Air Force Security. between Colonel Armando Treppiccioni, outgoing, and the Colonel Giuseppe Longo, subsequent.
At the ceremony, presided over by Colonel Antonio Genovese, Head of the General Security Department of the Air Force Staff, military and civil authorities co-located at the Ciampino air base, the Centre's personnel and a representative of the various units distributed across the territory, the Security Units and the SAP Security Offices (Special Access Programme, as well as various military and civilian guests.
It Colonel Treppiccioni, in his farewell speech, with visible emotion expressed profound gratitude to the women and men of the Centre and of the peripheral Security Organisation for the valuable results achieved: “These past two years have been among the most engaging of my career for me, from both a human and a professional standpoint. I thank you for the effort you have put in and for the strong sense of belonging that you consistently, diligently and commendably demonstrate on a daily basis within the Armed Forces bodies, supporting and safeguarding the command's actions in all their complex facets. With you, I have felt part of a Team, capable of completing all institutional tasks in accordance with the guidance of the Higher Authorities”.
Words full of enthusiasm from the new Commander of the Centre, Colonel Longo, with previous experience in the Security sector, having already served as Commander of the Air Force Security Operations Group of the Centre. Colonel Longo, in his inaugural speech, emphasised how, with energy and passion: “I will make every effort to ensure the best possible execution of all tasks requested by the Higher Authorities with the invaluable support of the Centre's personnel. Within a geopolitical framework characterised by profound international crises, the concepts of security and security threats are rapidly changing; the challenge for all of us is to maximally guarantee the security of the personnel, installations, information and image of the Armed Force and of Defence”.
It Head of Department Colonel Genovese, bringing the speeches to a close, thanked those present and congratulated Col. Treppiccioni “for the professional passion and dedication he has consistently demonstrated while in command of the Centre”Taking the opportunity to reiterate his esteem for him, he expressed himself as follows:“you will now continue exclusively to perform the delicate role of Head of the 1st Office at the Department where new challenges and new successes await you”Lastly, extending a warm welcome back to the Centre to Col. Longo, he concluded: “With your professionalism, solid experience and the indispensable support of the staff, you will enthusiastically take on the challenges of the new role to achieve all the planned objectives, leading the Centre and the outlying security organisation to ever-greater successes for the good of the Institutions that today, in a complex geopolitical context, we have the honour to serve”.
It Coordination Centre for Air Force Security. it reports to the Head of the General Security Department; its specific duties concern the observation of phenomena relating to compliance with security regulations and the protection of classified information. Reporting to the Centre Commander are the Security Units deployed throughout the national territory and the SAP Security Offices, which deal with the management of aspects related to the security of the F-35 programme.
