The handover took place in the presence of the Head of the Support Service On Thursday, March 8, at the Brindisi Airport Detachment, the command changeover ceremony took place between Colonel Gioacchino Cassarà, outgoing commander, and Colonel Giambattista Degiuli, incoming commander. The ceremony was presided over by the Chief of the Support Service, Brigadier General Ettore Ciniglio Appiani. In his farewell speech, Colonel Cassarà thanked the staff of the Airport Detachment for the commitment shown daily during this year and a half of command: “It is time to recognize that our successes are your successes, the successes of all the staff of the detachment, which derive from the sacrifice, initiative and passion of those who expended every effort, believing in teamwork, despite the difficulties.’ Speaking, Colonel Degiuli said he was honored and enthusiastic about the prestigious assignment entrusted to him. I assume the command of the Detachment in full awareness of how difficult it is today to manage and coordinate the activities of an organization in the presence of limited human, economic, and material resources; but I am equally convinced that our Armed Forces and the Brindisi Detachment can rely on well-trained and motivated women and men, capable of working as a team and overcoming any difficulties, to achieve the objectives that the Higher Authorities will indicate to us.”
General Ciniglio Appiani, during his speech, thanked Colonel Cassarà for the excellent work carried out and the excellent results achieved by the detachment during his command. He then added: “Today we are performing an act that holds a special significance in the tradition of our Armed Forces: the change of commander at the head of one of the technical-logistical support units of the Air Force. In the current international scenario, so complex and diverse, the diligent work of the personnel of the detachment, deployed 24 hours a day, in the delicate task of providing their contribution in missions even of a humanitarian nature, is essential.” The Brindisi detachment, under the authority of the Com Support ServiceAndo Logistico provides 24/7 support for aircraft passing through NATO countries and logistical and administrative support to the Armed Forces of the Brindisi area; it also provides assistance to the United Nations, which is the agency’s true “core business”.
