Lieutenant Colonel Castellano takes over from Colonel Di Benedetto
On Thursday 19 September 2024, at the Bari-Palese Military Airport, the change of command ceremony took place for the 2nd Technical Communications Department, between the Colonel Paolo Di Benedetto, outgoing Commander, and the Lieutenant Colonel Domenico Castellano, Incoming Commander.
The event was presided over by Brigadier General Sandro Sanasi, Commander of the 3rd Division of the Logistic Command, accompanied by Brigadier General Pietro Spagnoli, Commander of the 4th Air Defence and Flight Support Telecommunications and Systems Brigade.
Numerous military authorities intervened, including the Squadra Generale Sergio Antonio Scalese, Commander of the Cyber Operations Command and General of the Weapons Roll, the Brigadier General Romeo Paternò, Deputy Commander of the A.M. Schools Command / 3rd Air Region in addition to several former commanders of the Unit.
During the ceremony, Col. Di Benedetto, in his farewell speech, emphasised: “It has been a profound honour to have served my Armed Forces through this prestigious and demanding role; they have been three intense years rich in emotion […] men and women of the Unit, I have admired your pragmatic ability to carry out the assigned tasks, the true resource is you!”. In conclusion, Col. Di Benedetto, turning to Lt. Col. Domenico Castellano: “… Today I hand over to you a Unit capable of fulfilling its mission, made up of men and women, military and civilian personnel who share profound values and a consolidated spirit of belonging”.
Lt Col Castellano, after thanking the superior authorities, highlighted in his speech: “... With great emotion and deep pride, I am preparing to assume command of this Unit today […] I am certain that thanks to you, the women and men of the 2nd Technical Communications Unit, to your valour, your passion, your spirit of sacrifice and your competence, we will be able, together, to achieve the objectives that will be assigned to us”.
The Commander of the 3rd Division of the Logistics Command, Brigadier General Sanasi, during his closing speech, highlighted the importance of the Unit, which is taking on ever-increasing competence and relevance, before thanking Colonel Di Benedetto “... for having led the Department towards continuous successes, with a clear vision and proven expertise”and then formulate one's best wishes to Lieutenant Colonel Castellano for the role he has undertaken, which will require: “... passion and determination, essential factors for achieving the objectives that will be assigned to the Department”.
