Change of command at the “Angelo Mosso” Institute of Aerospace Medicine in Milan
At the ceremony, presided over by Inspector General Piervalerio Manfroni, General of the Air Squadron Mario Renzo Ottone, Commander of the 1st Air Region, military and civilian personnel of the Institute, and numerous military and civilian authorities participated.
In his customary farewell address, General Porcù recounted the highlights that characterized his four years in command from November 2009 onwards, highlighting the valuable contribution received from all the staff of the Institute: civil servants, military personnel, contracted doctors, and even the volunteer work of the Crocerossine volunteers. This contribution enabled the efficient fulfillment of institutional tasks despite the critical circumstances. General Porcù will assume the position of Deputy Head of the Health Service in Rome.
General Colaiacomo, in thanking the Higher Authorities for the trust placed in him by assigning him the duties of Director of the Institute of Aerospace Medicine in Milan, highlighted the fundamental role of the IMAS: “[…] The pillars of healthcare A
Aeronautics, which in addition to the daily psycho-physical control of all flight personnel, military and civilian, plays a primary role in linking our healthcare organization with the civilian world, both academically and in hospitals, and with the complex world of commercial aviation, all the more important today in light of the recent regulatory changes from ENAC.
A broad-based activity, which sees us engaged on multiple fronts and aiming for new European standards. All of this still today in the spirit of scientific investigation that has accompanied the Institutes since their inception”. General Colaiacomo also focused on future objectives: the field of research in the field of space medicine, Expo 2015, and the European discussion forums. General Colaiacomo then recalled the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Air Medical Corps, which took place on September 11 last year in Vatican City, and finally concluded his remarks by thanking General Porcù for the work carried out, wishing him success in the assignment he is about to assume as Deputy Head of the Medical Service of the AM.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, General Manfroni thanked General Porcù for the excellent work carried out and addressed a wish of good work to General Antonio Colaiacomo. The Institute of Aerospace Medicine of the AM “A. Mosso” is a center of high medical-legal specialization that deals with the fitness for flight of pilots of all the Armed Forces (including the National Acrobatics Patrol), law enforcement forces (State Police, Guardia di Finanza, Fire Brigade, State Forestry Corps, Civil Protection), and all air navigation personnel of Italian and foreign airlines. The contribution made by the Medical Officers of the IMAS is fundamental beyond national borders, in NATO missions such as that in Afghanistan.
