The transfer was carried out with a C-27J transport aircraft from the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa and managed by a team specialized in Bio-Containment from the Armed Forces Health Service. Air transport in bio-containment is a military capability, available for civilian use and purposes (dual use). It was in fact developed in coordination with the Ministries of Health, the Interior and Foreign Affairs, as well as with Civil Protection, responsible for the transport of the patient and the management of emergency health operations at national level. The Health Service of the Air Force Logistics Command cooperates in close synergy with the reference hospitals in the national territory, with high specialist expertise: the Lazzaro Spallanzani Research and Treatment Institute for Infectious Diseases in Rome and the Luigi Sacco Hospital in Milan.
