Bari Palese: Change of command at the helm of the Military Legal Medicine Department and the Aeromedical Psychophysiological Centre

On 10 February, the ceremony for the change of command of the... took place at the historic military airport of Bari Palese. Military Department of Forensic Medicine (D.M.M.L.) and Bari Aero-medical Psychophysiological Centre (C.A.P.), chaired by Brigadier General Emanuele Garzia, Head of the Italian Air Force Medical Service.

During the ceremony, in the presence of the civil and military authorities of the territory, the Colonel Mattia Ciriello has handed over the role of Director to Colonel Francesco Parrella. The parade was made up of the Band of the Air Force Schools Command / 3rd Air Region, personnel from the Military Legal Medicine Department and the Aeromedical Psychophysiological Centre of Bari Palese, and the Standards of the Veterans' and Arms Associations.

In his farewell speech, the Colonel Ciriello He reviewed the two years spent at the helm of D.M.M.L. and C.A.P., emphasising that…In these years, I have had the honour of leading two bodies that represent excellences in military healthcare within the Armed Forces. I wish to express my deep gratitude to the military and civilian personnel for the competence, availability, and spirit of service demonstrated in every circumstance. You have served the State with great passion and dedication, breaking ground for the new generations, who have seen in you a good example to follow and just ideals to pursue; to you I wish even greater satisfactions and emotions in this new phase of life that has opened up before you…”. Addressing his successor, he stated: “…I wish you the very best of luck! I'm sure that with your charisma, your enthusiasm and your determination, you will achieve ever more important goals and milestones...”. He finally thanked Brigadier General Garzia, “...for the trust you have always placed in our work and for the support you have shown to the staff. Knowing that we could rely on such an authoritative leadership has made our task more solid and our commitment even more motivated…”.

It Colonel Parrella, in his speech, he stressed that: “…Taking command today represents a moment of the highest significance, both institutionally and personally. It is an honour that I accept with a deep sense of responsibility and full awareness of the delicate nature of the task entrusted to me. I wish to express my sincere thanks to Colonel Ciriello who, with professionalism and balance, has led the Department and the Aeromedical Centre, ensuring operational continuity and organisational stability. The legacy he leaves behind constitutes an important foundation upon which I intend to build the future path of development, in the name of continuity, responsibility and constant improvement. My commitment will be to exercise leadership based on example, listening, respect for skills and inter-force cohesion...”.

In his closing speech, the Brigadier General Garzia He expressed his sincere satisfaction with Colonel Ciriello's work…for the undisputed professionalism and determination with which you led the D.M.M.L. and the C.A.P. during your period of Command, and for the brilliant results achieved...”Addressing Colonel Parrella: “...I extend warm wishes for your future challenges and a fruitful period of Command, in upholding the fundamental values on which the Armed Forces are founded...”.

It Military Department of Legal Medicine It is an inter-force Medico-Legal structure, serving the Armed Forces and all Public Administrations for the definition of medico-legal proceedings of various kinds. It is a highly specialised medical division, both in the field of forensic medicine and specialist medicine.

It Aeromedical Psychophysiological Centre carries out activities relating to flight fitness on behalf of the Director of the IMA Rome for aircrew personnel for the purpose of carrying out flight activities. Specifically, it assesses the possession of Military Service Fitness by military and civilian aircrew personnel and CSA-TA/DA personnel, in addition to fitness activities for adherence to the Armed Force.
