Wednesday 14 April, members of the Castelvetrano Section visited the Unit responsible for air space surveillance and SAR services. The delegation was welcomed on arrival by Major Giovanni Caianiello, who briefly explained the organisation of the Base to the guests, and received a souvenir from the Section President, Marshal Salvatore Urso.
After a few minutes of reflection and prayer inside the Airport Chapel, which was blessed in 1993 by the then Pontiff John Paul II, the visit continued to the operational area. Lieutenant Ivo Ferrazin, pilot of the 18th Fighter Interceptor Group, answered the guests’ numerous questions about the characteristics and performance of the F-16 fighter jet, while Major Giandavide Guadalupi, Commander of the 82nd CSAR Centre, explained the activities carried out by his men, including in support of the civilian population, aboard the HH-3F helicopters.
The day in Trapani for former members of the Carabinieri concluded with a visit to the meteorological section and the radar room, two important realities of the Department that ensure flight assistance for military and civil air traffic.
