The 4 Sergeants followed a selective pre-course for Aerosoccorritori. During the course, the participants were also prepared for the practical tests they subsequently took, in addition to the written test required by the selection process, in the presence of a commission appointed by the Military Personnel Directorate.
The psycho-physical training program included running, swimming, and general strengthening gymnastics activities, preparatory to passing exam tests such as, for example, carrying a subject weighing approximately 75 kg for 200 meters and descending on a double rope from a height of approximately 15 meters.
In addition to all of this, the trainees performed a flight as passengers to assess their aptitude for flying.
Among the institutional responsibilities of the 81st CAE are the planning, standardization, and updating of all activities of the flight crews, including the navigation personnel, the on-board operators (OSAR), and the Aerosoccorritors.
The 15th Wing, with its Groups/Centres, guarantees search and rescue for flight crews in distress 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It also contributes to public utility activities such as searching for missing persons at sea or in mountains, emergency medical transport of critically ill patients, and rescue of seriously injured individuals. Since its establishment, the 15th Wing has saved approximately 7,000 people from life-threatening situations.
