At the end of the ceremony for the 89th anniversary of the Air Force's foundation, the School of Specialists opened its doors to the public for a series of aeronautical events. The initiative, intended to bring citizens even closer to the world of aviation, included a static display on the Piazzale delle Bandiere and allowed the public to visit the pavilions and teaching laboratories of the new Multifunctional Centre.
The exhibition was inaugurated by the Commander of Schools A.M./3rd Air Region, Air Chief Marshal Mario Renzo Ottone, accompanied by the Head of the 5th Department of the Air Force Staff, Air Commodore Claudio Salerno and the Commander of the School, Colonel Paolo Marco Felli.
The exhibition covered means, technologies, systems and equipment in use at the School, aircraft models and military aeronautical memorabilia made available by the Air Force Association - Caserta Section, a historical and photographic exhibition on the SSAM, and the static F-104, Tornado IDS and AMX aircraft recently restored by the personnel of the 5th Aircraft Maintenance Group of Capodichino.
The initiative was met with great public success, particularly among school groups from the Caserta area who, in this way, completed an intense aeronautical day that began with participation in the morning ceremony, sealed by the flypast of the “Frecce Tricolori”. The event continued with the planting of a stone pine specimen by General Ottone, with the aim of enhancing the already rich arboreal garden of the School with a further element, recently refurbished thanks to the work of a team from the SSAM gardening unit with the collaboration of agricultural technicians from the 72nd Wing of Frosinone and under the direction of Lieutenant Colonel Orfeo Rossi.
On this occasion, the Interforce Chief of Service for the 11th Pastoral Zone of the Military Ordinariate, Don Rocco Smaldone, blessed the Statue of Our Lady of Loreto, which has been present in the Piazzale delle Bandiere for 50 years, and was restored with an artistic work of exquisite craftsmanship by 1st Airman Coviello Michele of the Specialist School.
