The Air Force Engineering Corps celebrates the centenary of its establishment, which took place on 31 July 1923
Monday 31 July the Air Force General's Body, established by Commissarial Decree of 31 July 1923, has reached its first 100 years.
The inseparable binomial of Genius and flight, sealed from the very first daring aviation exploits, has endured for a century and accompanies the evolution of the Air Force, established as an autonomous Armed Force just before, on 28 March 1923.
“On this solemn day, in the glorious Centenary year of the Italian Air Force's establishment, we relive an event of absolute significance for us, which took place exactly a century ago, on the distant 31st of July 1923. On that day, the foundation of Air Force Engineering sealed a deep and unbreakable bond between the realms of science, technology, and flight, charting the path for our future. From that historic moment, our Corps has embarked on a journey of relentless growth and evolution, carrying forward the legacy of brilliant and innovative minds who have left an indelible mark on our history.”.
These are the words of the Head of the Air Force Engineering Corps, Chief Inspector General Giuseppe Lupoli, in the congratulatory message sent to the Women and Men of the Air Force.
Highlighting the peculiarity of the era we are all living in, characterised by “rapid changes, in terms of scientific and technological progress”, Gen. Lupoli emphasised what appears to be “our task”, meaning not “solely to preserve the legacy of the past, but to boldly tackle present and future scenarios”, as “heirs of brilliant minds who have always sought to push the boundaries of what is possible”, “ready to embrace the most complex challenges and to seek new solutions”.
The Chief of the Air Force Engineering Corps is the Advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Air Force for all matters concerning the Corps, with particular regard to training and employment profiles of personnel, as well as for technical matters within its remit.
The Italian Air Force Engineers Corps performs technical functions relating to the design, construction, fitting out and armament of aeronautical equipment of all kinds, including Air Force real estate; it is responsible for the testing and maintenance of aeronautical equipment and Air Force real estate; it carries out all other technical services relating to the use of military aircraft and exercises technical supervision over civil aviation aeronautical equipment. The Corps comprises various Specialities e Professionalism, from aeronautics to space and armaments, from electronics to physics and chemistry, from motorisation to infrastructure and installations.
The anniversary celebrations will take place at Guidonia Airport on the morning of 22 September.
