The “men and women in blue” serving the national community and the international community, even during the Christmas holidays. The Department, by virtue of the activities carried out, represents an active part within the territory, as a cultural point of reference for fundamental values, such as the sense of duty, the spirit of sacrifice, and love for the Homeland. This is evidenced by the various expressions of gratitude received from public institutions and local associations, such as, for example, the awarding of the “Marco Roveda” prize to the Detachment by the city of Brindisi, assigned to the Detachment as “A department of the Air Force which has always ensured the institutional operational continuity assigned through the exemplary, silent and irreplaceable work of its military and civilian personnel.”.
The “T.V. Orazio Pierozzi” Detachment, attached to the 2nd Division of the Logistics Command – formerly the headquarters of the 32nd Wing, which was transferred to Amendola Air Base (Foggia) in 1997 – provides logistical support for “peacekeeping” (peacekeeping) and humanitarian operations of the United Nations Logistics Base (UNLB) and the World Food Programme (WFP), and provides logistical support to all Air Force units at the Brindisi air base. Furthermore, among the institutional tasks assigned by the Air Force General Staff, it is responsible for providing support to civil aviation’s air navigation and meteorological services. All this is carried out in accordance with European and national legislation aimed at promoting the development of civil aviation and in light of the high level of cooperation in the field of ATM (Air Traffic Management) achieved in recent years between the Italian Air Force, ENAV (National Flight Assistance Agency) and ENAC (National Civil Aviation Authority). Following these agreements, the Detachment manages commercial air traffic control: in 2011, the Air Traffic Control Service handled approximately 22,000 movements, representing a 3 % increase compared with the previous year, enabling Brindisi Airport to record over 2 million passengers in transit during the current year.
All this in the name of a long tradition that sees men and women in blue serving the community with passion and professionalism.
