Flooding in Emilia-Romagna: the 2nd Vehicle Maintenance Group has concluded support at the Forlì humanitarian hub

On the night of May 16th, a massive flood struck Emilia-Romagna and, in particular, many districts of the city of Forlì. The overflow of the region's rivers and the resulting landslides caused extensive infrastructural and economic damage with a high social impact, forcing thousands of citizens to abandon their homes.

In this scenario, the staff 2nd Vehicle Maintenance Group They readily lent their support to aid the civilian population. Indeed, from the very first hours of the emergency, a team made up of military personnel from the Group participated in operations to restore roads and houses invaded by the mud brought by the overflowing of the Rabbi and Montone rivers in the Forlì area.

Subsequently, from 26 May, on the mandate of the Interforce Summit Operational Command, in response to requests from the Municipality and Prefecture of Forlì-Cesena, a rotational training of 15 military personnel from the Forlì authority has begun to operate in synergy with Civil Protection, the Red Cross and other components of local volunteers, in the setup, organisation and management of the humanitarian HUB installed at the Exhibition Centre of the city.

In the initial phase of operations, the task assigned to the Air Force personnel was to manage the reception, cataloguing, and storage of donated materials, comprising approximately 400 pallets of foodstuffs, medical supplies, cleaning materials, tools, and personal protective equipment.

The impressive volume of charitable donations was such that it necessitated the support of personnel and resources from the 2nd M.A. Group, even in the phase of packaging food parcels and various items for personal and household hygiene, distributed by the Civil Protection to more than 5000 people.

It 30 June, after more than a month of incessant activity, the 2nd Air Mobile Group has concluded the support period for operations to aid the flood-affected population., distributing over 12,000 parcels to thousands of people affected by the flood.

Once again, the Air Force has provided concrete support and contribution that has earned the praise of local authorities, Civil Protection, and volunteer associations, who have recognised the professionalism, availability, and spirit of sacrifice shown by the personnel of the 2nd Group.

Giorgio Agostini, In concluding the support activity, it was highlighted how the sense of sharing, collaboration and brotherhood unites the values of the personnel of the 2nd Group and the Air Force with those of the citizens of Forlì and how, once again, the motto of the 2nd Group “Always be where it is necessary”perfectly captures the spirit with which they also operated in this emergency situation, in which the most important tribute and source of pride for all the men and women in blue was precisely the affectionate response of the affected population, who saw in the military personnel of the Italian Air Force the support and closeness of the Institutions.
