The exercise is organised by the 4th Air Defence/Flight Assistance Telecommunications and Systems Brigade. On Monday 28 May, the Elettra 2018 exercise officially began. It is organised and conducted by the 4th Telecommunications and Systems Brigade for Air Defence and Flight Assistance of Borgo Piave, with the support of the Technical Communications Units of Milan and Bari, the Automated Information Systems Unit of Rome, and with the involvement of the 70th Wing of Latina, the 4th Wing of Grosseto, the Command and Control Systems Management and Innovation Unit of Pratica di Mare, and the TLC/Weather Section of Ciampino. The third edition of this joint exercise with other entities of the Armed Force aims to improve operational capability during national deployments or in operations outside national borders, training personnel in operational and logistical preparation activities to optimise the promptness, efficiency and effectiveness of intervention in all operations in which personnel of the 4th Brigade may be called upon to intervene.
During the phases of the exercise, which will end on 22 June, a series of international crisis events will be simulated which, together with weather phenomena, will put the assets assigned to the Units to a severe test and will test the reaction and intervention capabilities of the personnel. The contribution, in terms of men, professionalism and CIS (Communication and Information Systems) assets, will make it possible to test the operational capability of the Unit and the procedures for the employment of personnel and vehicles with regard to the Armed Forces' Telecommunications sector, as well as to enrich the technical-professional background of all participating personnel.
