The man, needing to be transported to Padova hospital, travelled with a medical team on a Gulfstream G650 from the 31st Wing of Ciampino
This night, the emergency medical transport of a 68-year-old gentleman, in imminent danger of death, who was admitted to the Brotzu hospital in Cagliari and needed to be transferred with the utmost urgency to the Azienda Ospedale-Università of Padua, concluded with his landing in Venice.
The flight, as provided for by the procedures for this type of activity, was authorised by the Prime Minister's Office, which manages and coordinates the activities of the State aircraft fleet.
The activation was carried out at the request of the Prefecture of Cagliari to the Summit Situations Room of the Italian Air Force's 1st Air Force Command in Milan, which immediately involved the 31st Wing of Ciampino, one of the Units that carries out operational readiness service for this type of mission.
After all necessary procedures were carried out by the military crew, the G650 took off from Ciampino Airport bound for Cagliari, where the man was immediately boarded along with a medical team. After landing at Venice Airport, which occurred shortly after 03:30 local time, an ambulance provided the subsequent transport to the hospital facility for admission.
This type of activity for the benefit of the community is one of the institutional tasks carried out by the Italian Air Force. Flight Units are available to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with aircraft and crews capable of operating, even in complex weather conditions, to ensure urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of death, but also of organs, medical teams or ambulances.
Every year, hundreds of flight hours are carried out for these types of operations by aircraft from the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, and helicopters from the 15th Wing of Cervia.
