A Gulfstream G-650 aircraft of the 31st Ciampino Squadron intervened this morning to promptly transfer a man from Lampedusa to Palermo.
An emergency medical transport for a 58-year-old man in imminent life-threatening condition (IPV) concluded this morning, September 20, 2026. The man, admitted to the Emergency Territorial Point of Lampedusa, needed to be transferred promptly to the Civico Hospital in Palermo for immediate specialist care.
The request for support came from the Prefecture of Agrigento and was handled by the Situation Room of the Air Force Command, the operational room of the Air Force that also has the task of coordinating this type of activity in favor of the community. As is customary for this type of emergency intervention, the flight was authorized and coordinated by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the body that manages the activation of the state air fleet for medical and rescue transport throughout the national territory.
The Gulfstream G650 aircraft belonging to the 31st Ciampino Squadron took off from Rome to reach Lampedusa and, after boarding the patient, it took off again at 07:43 for Palermo. The plane landed at the Palermo airport at 08:21, where the patient was immediately transferred by ambulance to the hospital facility of destination.
The Italian Air Force's flight units are available to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with aircraft and crews capable of operating even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of death, but also of organs, medical teams or ambulances.
Hundreds of flight hours are carried out each year for this type of operation by the aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa and the helicopters of the 15th Wing of Cervia.
