It concluded in the early afternoon of today the Emergency medical transport of one three-month-old infant in imminent danger of death, in code “IPV”.
The young patient was transferred with the utmost urgency from Cagliari to Rome on board an aircraft Italian Air Force 31st Wing Gulfstream G650.
The flight, requested by Cagliari Prefecture to allow the immediate hospital admission of the newborn at the Gemelli University Hospital in Rome, it has been authorised and coordinated by Prime Minister's Office, which manages the operational missions of the state fleet.
The aircraft took off from the airport of Cagliari Elmas at 15:00. On board, a’medical team at the “Casula” hospital in Cagliari, which ensured continuous monitoring and healthcare during the crossing. The landing at the stopover of Rome Ciampino took place at 15:40. Once on the ground, the newborn was promptly entrusted to the care of the ambulance for subsequent transfer to Policlinico Gemelli.
Today's intervention is an example of operational readiness and rapid response capability of the Air Force crews and aircraft. The Armed Force's flight departments are operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with means and crews ready to deploy at very short notice to ensure the emergency transport not only of people in imminent danger of life, but also of organisations, medical teams and community rescue operations.
