Aircraft from the 31st Wing used for the transfer of a patient in imminent danger of death.
A life-saving operation took place late on the evening of 27 March, when an Italian Air Force Gulfstream G650 aircraft was used for the urgent medical transport of a 70-year-old man.
The flight, which took off from Pantelleria Airport in the evening, reached Trapani shortly after, enabling the rapid transfer of the patient to the provincial hospital.
The man, who came from the “B. Nagar” Hospital facility in Pantelleria, was assisted during the flight by a medical team consisting of two healthcare professionals, who ensured continuous monitoring.
The mission was activated at the request of the Prefecture of Trapani and coordinated by the Summit Situation Room of the Air Squad Command in Milan, which ordered the immediate deployment of the 31st Wing, among the units on operational readiness for this type of intervention.
The flight was authorised by the Prime Minister's Office, which manages and coordinates the State aircraft fleet's activities.
Interventions of this type fall within the institutional duties of the Air Force, which ensures a continuous service for the community, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The main departments involved in these activities are the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa and the 15th Wing of Cervia, with crews and aircraft ready to operate even in complex conditions to guarantee urgent medical transport.
