The man was transported via a C-130J transport aircraft of the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa from Naples airport to Turin airport for subsequent transfer to the National Transplant Centre of the Piedmontese capital.

The urgent medical transport of a 50-year-old man from Naples Airport to Turin Airport, carried out by a C-130J transport aircraft of the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, concluded at first light. The patient needed to be transferred from Caserta hospital to the National Transplant Centre in Turin for an important surgical procedure. This special medical flight was activated at the request of the Prefecture of Caserta to the Summit Situation Room of the Air Squad Command – 1st Air Region of the Italian Air Force. The latter immediately involved the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, one of the Units that provides operational readiness for such missions. The standby crew of the 46th Air Brigade then took off from the Italian Air Force base in Pisa and headed to Naples Airport. Once they arrived at the airport in Campania, the patient was loaded onto the C-130J on a stretcher, accompanied by medical personnel. After a little over an hour of flight, the C-130J landed at the airport in Piedmont, where an ambulance was waiting to transfer him to the National Transplant Centre.

The Italian Air Force's flight units are available to the public 24 hours a day, every day of the year, with aircraft and crews capable of transporting patients, organs, medical teams, and ambulances, even in complex meteorological conditions.

Hundreds of flight hours are carried out every year for this type of mission by aircraft from the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, and by helicopters from the 15th Wing of Cervia, stationed in various bases from the north to the south of the country.
