The Boeing KC-767A aircraft fleet of the 14th Wing of the Italian Air Force, on 20 July 2026, reached the significant milestone of 50,000 flight hours, confirming the high levels of reliability, operational availability and versatility that have for years distinguished one of the Armed Forces' most esteemed strategic aircraft.
Capable of carrying out air-to-air refuelling missions, strategic transport of personnel and materials, and medical evacuation, the KC-767A continues to represent an essential asset for ensuring the Italian Air Force's national and international projection capability, guaranteeing constant support for joint operations, NATO activities, and interventions in favour of the civilian population.
In recent years, the fleet has been deployed in numerous operations which have confirmed the aircraft's flexibility in vastly different operational contexts. Among the main activities, the continuous support for NATO operations, the contribution to the Task Force Air Kuwait, participation in the operation Indo-Pacific Jump of 2024, in addition to the repatriation of compatriots from countries in the Middle East following the worsening of the regional crisis and the transport of personnel, materials and aid destined for the population affected by the earthquake in Venezuela, contributing to the assistance arrangement set up by Italy.
Achieving 50,000 flight hours demonstrates not only the operational maturity of the weapon system but also its continuous evolution, as shown by the expansion of its capabilities through the implementation of the configuration Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) and the consequent issuance of the certification for the new health modules D1-D4 for intensive care of patients during flight. This configuration allows the transport of up to ten stretcher-bound patients with their relative medical staff on board, further increasing the capability of the asset to intervene in aeromedical evacuation operations, humanitarian assistance and emergency management.
Over the years, thanks to its ability to adapt rapidly to continuously evolving scenarios and to constant technological and operational updating, the KC-767A has consolidated its role as a capacity multiplier of the Italian Air Force, ensuring operational continuity both in military missions and in interventions to help the community.
