In the early afternoon today, Tuesday 6 May, during an acrobatic training flight of the Frecce Tricolori at Pantelleria airport, the day after the Catania airshow, an abnormal separation of the formation, during the cardioid manoeuvre, necessitated the interruption of the acrobatic display.

Four aircraft from the second section, the so-called “rombetto”, demonstrating mastery of procedures, therefore separated from the rest of the formation, three of which subsequently headed for landing at Pantelleria airport. The remaining aircraft of the formation landed at Trapani military airport.

During landing at Pantelleria, an aircraft, due to a technical controllability issue with the nose wheel, overran the runway at the end of its ground deceleration run. The pilot sustained no injuries.
