The young patient, in imminent danger of death due to a serious pathology, was transferred this afternoon on board a Gulfstream G-650 of the Air Force to receive specialist care at the IRCCS in Milan.
The urgent medical transport of a two-year-old child, who due to a serious illness required transfer as quickly as possible from the Polyclinic of Palermo to the IRCCS hospital in Milan, concluded around 4:15 PM today.
The life-saving flight, requested by the Prefecture of Palermo and coordinated by the Summit Operations Room of the Air Squad Command, was carried out with a G-650 aircraft belonging to the 31st Wing. The young patient was embarked at the Sicilian capital's airport, assisted by a medical team and their parents.
The aircraft took off from Palermo at 15:00 local time and landed at Linate Airport after approximately one hour and fifteen minutes of flight. Upon arrival at its destination, the child was immediately transferred by ambulance to the designated hospital facility for the necessary treatment.
Today's mission is a testament to the constant operational readiness of the Italian Air Force crews, an asset at the service of the nation and citizens in emergency situations. The flight, as expected for this type of public utility activity, was authorised and coordinated by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, which manages the deployment of the fleet of State aircraft.
The Italian Air Force’s flight departments are available to the public 24 hours a day, every day of the year, with aircraft and crews capable of operating with the utmost promptness to ensure the urgent transport of people in imminent danger of death, organs, or medical teams. This service is guaranteed by the aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, and the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, which are always ready for take-off at very short notice throughout the national territory.
