From 13 April to 15 May, the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Centre of Excellence (RPA Centre of Excellence) of the Italian Air Force carried out at the airport of Frosinone A course for drone operators Basic/Advanced of the Mini/Micro (m/M) Class, a training activity that aims to provide the notions and practical skills for effective planning and conduct of military activities with remotely piloted aircraft, respectively in conditions of Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) e Beyond Visual Line of Sight (Beyond Visual Line of Sight).
The course falls within the scope of the activities and tasks assigned to the Centre, an inter-force asset of the Air Force, which is configured as the Reference centre in the defence sector for the RPAS subject. The RPAS CDE, through its expert personnel in the sector, in addition to basic and advanced training for piloting and the use of APR systems and their related sensors, It is responsible for supporting and fostering the inter-force development of the sector through experimental activities, procedure development and validation of concepts connected to their use, and training and procedural standardisation to ensure maximum interoperability at both inter-force and inter-agency levels.
On the Frosinone site, formerly home to the 72nd Wing, now relocated to the Viterbo base, there is a design project aimed at the establishment of a single National UAV Training Hub, capable of rationalising and bringing together all the training capabilities of the Armed Forces and Defence in this sector – from basic to advanced and specialist training – with a view to integration and optimisation of resources and the search for new synergies.
