Joint training: Italian and German fighter jets perfect complex operational tactics

The German Air Force and the Luftwaffe conducted an intensive joint exercise in recent days at the Neuburg air base in Germany. The main objective was to increase the readiness level of military pilots for air-to-air combat and to perfect more complex operational tactics.

The activity, technically called “Dissimilar Air Combat Training – DACT”, Eurofighter Typhoon fighter aircraft took part 36th Fighter Wing of Gioia del Colle (BA) and arrangements of Tactical Air Force Wing 74 German. A total of eight aircraft were involved in simulating operational scenarios with increasing difficulty and complexity.

During the simulated air-to-air combat (Air-to-Air), the pilots of both air forces had the opportunity to fine-tune the use of specific operational tactics and maneuver the assigned assets in an extremely dynamic operational context.

In particular, offensive air attacks have been simulated (OCA – Offensive Counter Air) and defensive (DCA – Defensive Counter Air). The entire activity was aimed at increasing the levels of Operational readiness, In the refinement of combat ability and the strengthening of Co-operation and the integration between the air assets of the forces of’North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.

It DACT It represented a fundamental opportunity for the achievement of an advanced level of training for the personnel involved, through a training program aimed at constantly expanding the projection capabilities of the air forces deployed internationally. This activity also proves crucial for testing and training the structure of command and control, as well as to coordinate the national systems of Air defence.

It 36th Fighter Wing of Gioia del Colle (BA) is subordinate to the Command of Combat Forces (CFC) in Milan, whose assigned mission is to acquire and maintain the operational readiness of all air and attack and reconnaissance defense organizations, ensuring the operational efficiency of weapon systems, equipment and materials, as well as the training of personnel and the constant updating and optimization of operational procedures, in compliance with the guidelines of the SS.AA. The CFC is subordinate to the Air Squad Command – 1st Air Region which exercises the powers regarding the training, preparedness and operational readiness of its Squadrons, so that they acquire and maintain the expected levels of operational readiness. The 36th Fighter Wing is one of the 5 Squadrons of the Air Force that ensure National Air Defence and the service of Quick Reaction Alert of the NATO.
