The 6th Wing of the Italian Air Force has redeployed to Lechfeld Air Base in Germany to participate in a training activity at the Polygone Electronic Warfare range.
From 10 to 21 July, a cell of personnel from 6th Wing of the Italian Air Force, equipped with PA-200 “Tornado” E.C.R. (Electronic Combat Reconnaissanceand has redeployed to Lechfeld Air Base in Germany to carry out training missions at the multinational centre for Electronic warfare tactics MAEWTF (Multinational Aircrew Electronic Warfare Tactics Facility) Polygon.
The training activity, set within a dynamic and varied scenario with high density of missile and electronic threats and increasing difficulty, has allowed the crews involved to maintain the highest level of operational capability in a complex electromagnetic environment.
Based on the planned missions, several objectives have been achieved, such as: training flight crews to’Evading manoeuvres When facing a surface-to-air threat, recognise and locate emissions in the electromagnetic band typically used by radar systems of Air defence terrestrial, plan and execute mission Suppression of enemy air defences of SEAD/DEAD typeSuppression/Destruction of Enemy Air Defence).
The training event allowed the “Red Devils”to acquire the maximum training return, consequently confirming the Tornado weapon system with operational E.T.S. capability.Electronic Warfare Tactical Suppression) which valuable asset capable of operating effectively in high-threat contexts.
It 6th Wing “Alfredo Fusco” is tasked with acquiring and maintaining the capability to perform attack, reconnaissance, and support operations for surface forces, electronic reconnaissance, and support for attack forces against enemy and potential enemy targets.
Ensure the operational conversion and standardisation of flight crews assigned to the line. Tornado IDS/ECR for their subsequent inclusion in the Operational Directorates.
It is hierarchically subordinate to the Combat Forces Command (CFC) stationed in Milan, which in turn is subordinate to the Air Fleet Command (CSA) based at Palazzo Aeronautica in Rome.
