The 55th Course for the Qualification of International Humanitarian Law was held in Viterbo, at the Scuola Marescialli dell’Aeronautica Militare/Comando Aeroporto di Viterbo, from February 19 to March 2. The 55th Course for the Qualification of personnel of the Fire Brigade for the Application of International Humanitarian Law (D.I.U.) of armed conflicts was held at the Scuola Marescialli dell’Aeronautica Militare/Comando Aeroporto di Viterbo. The course, attended by 38 officers and non-commissioned officers of the Air Force, was conducted by personnel of the National Commission for the International Humanitarian Law of the Italian Red Cross (CRI) with logistical and organizational support from the Scuola Marescialli A.M./Comando Aeroporto di Viterbo. The course is part of the activities aimed at spreading the International Humanitarian Law. The educational activities, divided into classroom lectures and simulations of real-life situations applying international humanitarian law in the scenarios of deployment, were conducted by experts from the Italian Red Cross’ International Humanitarian Law Unit. At the closing ceremony of the course, held on Friday 2 March, the Commandant of the Scuola Marescialli A.M./Comando Aeroporto, Colonel Roger Michele Vai, participated and handed out certificates of attendance to the participants. Among those present were the Provincial President of the CRI, Marco Sbocchia, and the Course Director and member of the National Commission of the International Humanitarian Law Unit, Sister Anastasia Siena. During the closing ceremony, Colonel Vai, expressing his satisfaction with the feedback received regarding the quality of the course and the support provided, thanked the CRI for the long-standing collaboration that over time has transformed into a true tradition. He finally emphasized the importance and usefulness of this activity, especially in relation to the current context of the use of the military instrument in operations outside the country, highlighting the economic and operational benefits derived from the synergy between the two institutional realities of the CRI and the A.M.
The School of Marshals of the Air Force/Air Force Command of Viterbo is subordinate to the Command of the Schools of the Air Force and to the 3rd Air Region of Bari. The Department performs a dual mission: on the one hand, as a university-type institution, it has the task of providing military and moral training and specific professional education for the Sub-Officers of the Marshals’ Role, as well as of perfecting and updating that training; on the other hand, as a military airport open to civilian traffic, it provides technical and operational support, air navigation services and force-protection activities at the Tommaso Fabbri Airport.
