Royal Danish Air Force F-16 fighter jets deployed to Grosseto from January 17th. The ‘Winter Hide 2011’ exercise was organised as part of a bilateral agreement between the two countries with the aim of optimising advanced air combat training between Royal Danish Air Force pilots and their Italian colleagues from the 4th Wing. On Tuesday, February 2nd, on the occasion of ‘Media Day’, aimed mainly at local and specialist publications, the Wing Commander, Colonel Michele Morelli, stated that “this exercise has been a fantastic opportunity to review and consolidate the standard operating procedures (SOPs) that have united all NATO fighter pilots for years and to validate the employment tactics of the Eurofighter aircraft”. The Royal Danish Air Force F16-AMs are normally stationed at Skrydstrup, about fifty kilometres from the German border. The main task of ‘Fighter Wing Skrydstrup’ is Danish airspace surveillance. In an international context, they are part of NATO's High Readiness Force (HRF). The F-16 is the most widespread and used fighter jet in the world, so much so that for over 30 years it has been considered one of the most versatile combat aircraft. The United States, Denmark, Holland, Norway, Belgium and Italy are just some of the countries that have it in their inventory.
