Mercoledì 1 Settembre il 16° Stormo di Martina Franca hanno segnato il traguardo del loro impegno nelle operazioni in Afghanistan Nei cinque anni di permanenza in Afghanistan, i Fucilieri dell’Aria del 16° Stormo di Martina Franca (Taranto) hanno essenzialmente svolto attività di ‘force protection’ in favore del contingente schierato a Herat, oltre ad aver fornito scorte in occasione di visite ufficiali e ad aver partecipato ad attività di assistenza alla popolazione. Dall’inizio del loro mandato, iniziato nell’Agosto del 2005, sono stati circa 500 i Fucilieri dell’Aria che hanno prestato servizio in Afghanistan.
