Ultralight aircraft incident in Friuli: the Air Force's condolences for the disappearance of Captain Ghersi

The Air Force, upon learning of the tragic accident involving a civilian aircraft in which the two occupants, including Captain Alessio Ghersi, a pilot serving with the 313th Acrobatic Training Group “Frecce Tricolori”, sadly lost their lives late yesterday afternoon, joins in the grief of the families.

 

The Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Air Squad General Luca Goretti, on behalf of the entire Armed Force, embraces his wife and their two children in this moment of profound sorrow.

 

The traditional event marking the end of the training period, in preparation for the start of the aerobatic season, scheduled for May 1st at Rivolto airbase, will not take place.

 

Captain Ghersi, aged 34 and originally from Domodossola, currently held the position of 2nd Right Flank, Pony 5, within the Frecce Tricolori formation. He had joined the Italian Air Force in 2007 with the Ibis V course at the Air Force Academy. After flight school, he was assigned to the 4th Wing in Grosseto, where he qualified as a combat-ready pilot on the Eurofighter aircraft, carrying out air defence activities both nationally and on NATO missions. Subsequently selected for the Frecce Tricolori, he would soon have been taking part in his fifth acrobatic season with the National Acrobatic Patrol.
