Frecce Tricolori: 1st May in Rivolto, final training before the start of the 2024 aerobatic season

A special year is beginning for the Italian National Aerobatic Display Team, as they return for a tour of North America after more than thirty years.

 

On Wednesday 1 May, the final flight of the Frecce Tricolori's training phase will take place at the Rivolto Air Base, home to the 2nd Wing and the 313th Aerobatic Training Group of the Italian Air Force. This event precedes the start of the 2024 aerobatic season, the 64th since the founding of the National Aerobatic Team (PAN).

The event, which will feature various political and military authorities as guests of honour, will be presided over by the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Air Force General Luca Goretti.

On this occasion, the National Acrobatic Patrol will perform its full aerobatic display, which will then be presented at all shows throughout the season. As in previous editions, the event will see an influx of enthusiasts belonging to the 136 Frecce Tricolori Clubs, from all over Italy.

A PAN season – the 64th – which will officially open on Sunday 5th May in Caorle (Venice) and which, as usual, will visit many Italian locations throughout the year, without forgetting the various flypasts, including those for the institutional anniversaries of 2nd June and 4th November. This year, moreover, thirty years after the last mission (the “Columbus ‘92”), the Frecce Tricolori will once again perform overseas, for a tour of North America –  North America Tour (NAT) – will open on June 22nd with a display in the skies over Bagotville, Canada, to celebrate the 100th birthday of the Royal Canadian Air Force alongside Canadian friends, an encounter between two entities with a centenarian history and traditions rooted in shared values.

The Frecce Tricolori will continue throughout the summer season, until early September, with flypasts and displays in numerous locations across Canada and the United States of America, where the Italian Air Force aerobatic team will act as ambassadors of Italian excellence. Among the numerous stops, including Niagara, Montreal, Ottawa, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon/Monument Valley, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Moose Jaw, Chicago, Toronto, Philadelphia, New York, Washington, Newport, and Boston, there will also be Los Angeles in July, where the arrival of the Navy's Amerigo Vespucci ship, engaged in its world tour, will see the two Italian defence excellences meet for a grand tricolour embrace.

It North America Tour It will be an opportunity to carry out a redeployment thousands of kilometres from Italy and an opportunity to share the values, technology, professionalism and teamwork of the entire Air Force, on a multi-stage journey between Canada and the United States. It will be a training activity that will involve all the Air Force's capabilities in planning and conducting complex operations involving numerous aircraft and personnel, including foreign ones, and at the same time it will be a showcase for our country's air and aerospace military capabilities. North America Tour the Frecce Tricolori will also be an opportunity to represent Italy in the world, a chance for the entire “country system” to promote the “Made in Italy”Overseas, also promoting national industry in locations where millions of people belonging to the Italo-Canadian and Italo-American communities reside.
