Italian Air Force: ambulance with two-year-old girl transferred from Bari with C-130J

The aircraft of the 46th Air Brigade transported the rescue vehicle with the little patient in life-threatening condition to Ciampino, en route to the Bambino Gesù Paediatric Hospital in Rome.

The urgent medical transport from Bari to Rome, carried out by a C-130J transport aircraft from the 46th Air Brigade of the Italian Air Force, took place this afternoon for a two-year-old girl in imminent danger of death.

The young patient's clinical condition, admitted to the Giovanni XXIII Hospital in Bari, required an urgent transfer to the Bambino Gesù paediatric hospital in Rome.

The Prefecture of Bari therefore contacted the Aerospace Operations Command in Poggio Renatico (Ferrara), which activated one of the Italian Air Force crews on standby for this type of intervention.

For the mission, the C-130J from the 46th Air Brigade, departing from Pisa, embarked the ambulance, the child, the mother and the medical team directly in Bari, drastically reducing transport times.

After landing at Rome's Ciampino airport, which occurred around 7:15 PM, the ambulance headed for the paediatric hospital in Rome, while the aircraft returned to its base in Pisa to resume its 24-hour standby service.

The 46th Air Brigade of Pisa is one of the Air Force Departments that carries out operational readiness service for this type of mission, along with the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare and the helicopters of the 15th Wing of Cervia. The flying Departments are indeed available to the public 24 hours a day, every day of the year, with aircraft and crews capable of operating even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of life, but also of organs, medical teams or, as today, ambulances.
