Lt Col Massimo Croce wins two golds in the Olympic Trap discipline, individual and team at the 2nd CISM Military International Clay Pigeon Shooting Tournament.
This is an international sporting competition which, despite being recently established, pits Olympic-ranked professional athletes against each other. Italian athletes have reaffirmed their absolute leadership, conquering four gold medals, one silver, and one bronze in Clay Pigeon Shooting, both as team and individual results.
The Air Force, represented by Lieutenant Colonel Massimo Croce of the Air Force Clay Shooting Sports Group, serving at the Logistic Command, managed to hit the most prestigious target by winning two golds in the Olympic Skeet discipline.
Olympic Trap involves shooters taking turns on different stands, firing from a straight firing line located 15 metres from the trap house where the clay pigeon throwing machines are situated. The clay pigeon is launched automatically and instantaneously as soon as the shooter gives the command. The shooter waits with their rifle shouldered and loaded with two cartridges. Each stand has three clay pigeon throwing machines (15 in total), and an automatic roulette determines the sequence of the launches. The direction of the clay pigeon varies horizontally by 90°, and its height, 10 metres from the trap house, fluctuates between 1.5 and 3 metres. Unlike other disciplines, the shooter knows the launch time of the clay pigeon, which tends to move further and further away from them. Olympic Trap has been present at the Olympics since its first demonstration edition in Athens in 1896; furthermore, until the Tokyo Olympics in 1964, it was the only clay shooting discipline admitted.
