About 30 athletes from the Air Force competed at the Sport Logistics Center of the Command of the 1st Air Region. On September 7, 2018, the 2nd National A.M. Triathlon Race took place, in the evocative setting of the Sport Logistics Center of Presidio overlooking the Milanian heliport.
The competition took place over three events: the first involved the 400-meter swim race held in the waters of the Milanian yacht harbor; the second was a cycling event with a 10-kilometer route within the adjacent park; and the third and final event was the 2,500-meter race held within the Presidio Sports Logistics Center (C.L.S.P.).
Favorable weather conditions facilitated the smooth running of the competition, which, as already happened in 2017, was particularly appreciated by all the highly prepared participants from the Air Force’s Departments and Units.
The organization of the competition, conducted by the staff of the C.L.S.P., was assisted, in terms of safety and coordination, by the staff of the Arma Aeronautica Association of Milan and supported by some units of the Italian Red Cross, in particular by the President of the Regional Triathlon Federation, Mauro Garavaglia, who was among the participants in the race thanks to the granting of a “wild card”.
At the end of the race, the awards ceremony took place in the presence of the Commander of the 1st Air Region and the Combat Forces, Gen. D.A. Silvano Frigerio, also a competitor, and the Director of the Sportive Logistics Center of Presidio, Col. Giuseppe Fiore, during which the trophies were presented to the winners of the “open” and “over 50” categories, who, in order, were Magg. Daniele Lanza of the 6th Stormo of Ghedi and Lieutenant 1st M.llo Lgt. Corrado Saba of the R.S.S.T.A. of Decimomannu.
The Milan Presidio Logistics and Sports Center organizes and controls activities related to the maintenance, updating, and operational and psycho-physical efficiency of the personnel of the Italian Air Force deployed in the Milan area, and oversees promotional, sporting, recreational activities, and functions of representation towards the local community.
