The significant milestone achieved in just under 12 months from the start of their mandate. With the flight on 8th March, the Eurofighter aircraft of the ’Typhoon“ Task Group, deployed at the Al Jaber air base in Kuwait, reached 2,000 flight hours, in just under 12 months from the start of their mandate. The ”Typhoon“ Task Group operates under the command of the IT NCC Air/TFA Kuwait (Italian National Contingent Command Air/Task Force Air), established on 17th October 2014 as part of the national ”Prima Parthica“ and multinational ”Inherent Resolve“ operations to combat DAESH. The Eurofighter aircraft, in all operational missions carried out from 26th March 2019 to date, has proven to be an extremely versatile and reliable weapon system. Thanks to the sophisticated Reccelite II micro-tactical reconnaissance POD, it has collected and distributed an impressive quantity of very high-resolution images of points of interest requested by the Coalition. The Task Group has perfected the tactics, techniques, and procedures used, both on the ground and in flight, to plan and execute missions, analyse and disseminate the collected data and images, highlighting the Eurofighter within the Coalition as a highly effective micro-tactical reconnaissance aircraft in terms of manoeuvrability, time spent in the area of operations, acquisition altitude, and transit speed. The milestone achieved, in addition to representing an important operational contribution by the Air Force to the fight against DAESH, is the result of the commitment and professionalism of the men and women of the ”Typhoon“ Task Group and their daily work in all environmental conditions, also made possible thanks to the support of all the Commands and Departments of the Armed Force involved at home.
The mission of TFA-K (Task Force Air-Kuwait) ensures the synergistic and coordinated employment of deployed assets: the KC-767A aircraft, used to meet the air-to-air refuelling needs of Coalition assets, and the Predator remotely piloted aircraft and Eurofighters, which are instead employed in ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) activities, aimed at producing high-resolution images and videos. The images produced by the Air Force's ISR assets are exploited by the joint intelligence fusion cell known as I2MEC (Integrated Italian Multisensor Exploitation Cell), an Italian excellence in the intelligence sector, unique in its kind.
