Italian Air Force, urgent medical transport: 9-year-old child transported from Lecce to Rome

Lifesaving flight for a 9-year-old child transported by an Italian Air Force 31st Wing Falcon 900 aircraft.

 

The [event/meeting] concluded today, shortly before 4:00 PM. Urgent medical transport carried out from Lecce to Rome with a Falcon 900 of the Italian Air Force, aircraft of the 31st Wing based at Ciampino Airport (Rome), in favour of a 9-year-old child In imminent danger of life.

 

The flight mission, requested by Lecce Prefecture, was immediately arranged and coordinated by the Summit Situations Room of the Air Squadron Command, the Operations Room of the Italian Air Force, which has among its duties that of activating and managing urgent medical transports, using aircraft and crews that the Armed Force keeps on standby, 24 hours a day, every day of the year for this type of necessity.

 

Having arrived at Lecce-Galatina Airport, the aircraft embarked the young patient, who had previously been admitted to’“Vito Fazzi” Apulian Hospital”, along with a medical team and his parents. The Falcon 900 then immediately took off for Rome-Ciampino airport, from where the child was able to reach, on board a waiting ambulance, Agostino Gemelli University Polyclinic in Rome. The military aircraft has therefore resumed its operational readiness service.

 

Through its Flight Departments, the Air Force provides aircraft and crews ready to take off at any moment and capable of operating even in difficult weather conditions to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of death, as happened today, but also of organs and medical teams for transplants. Hundreds of flight hours are carried out each year for this type of operation by the aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino, of 14th Practice Wing of Pratica di Mare, of 46th Air Brigade of Pisa from the helicopters of the 15th Air Wing of Cervia.
